Understanding female physiology is the baseline, allowing us to conceptualize the physiological effects of performance enhancing compound use, both positive and negative. This course will help individuals and coaches prioritize health and well-being whilst still achieving their physique and/or performance goals. By learning about safer use models, risk assessment strategies, and potential side effects, you can better manage long-term health.

This course addresses the need for comprehensive education and guidance surrounding female athletes and the use of performance enhancing compounds, with a focus on promoting safety, informed decision-making, and ethical considerations within the fitness and athletic community.

Course Syllabus

Module 1: Female Physiology

Module 1 focuses on female physiology, particularly the roles and functions of hormones in regulating various aspects of a woman's body. It emphasizes the importance of hormonal balance for overall health and well-being. The module covers the roles of key hormones like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA-S, detailing their functions in metabolism, mood regulation, bone health, and more.

The menstrual cycle is explained in detail, highlighting all of  its phases and the hormonal changes that occur during each phase. The significance of ovulation in hormone production and fertility is also discussed.Additionally, the module explores different methods of birth control, including hormonal and non-hormonal options, and their effects on the menstrual cycle and overall health. It discusses how hormonal birth control works, its potential side effects, and its impact on hormone levels and bodily functions. Non-hormonal birth control methods are also outlined, along with their benefits and potential drawbacks.

The module concludes with a discussion on the effects of hormonal birth control on performance-enhancing drug use in females, emphasizing its potential impact on anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS). It addresses the role of birth control in managing hormonal symptoms such as acne, PMS, and irregular cycles, while also highlighting its limitations in addressing underlying hormonal imbalances.

Module 2: Identifying/ Addressing Hormonal Chaos in Female Athletes

Module 2 focuses on identifying and addressing hormonal imbalances in female athletes. It covers common hormonal dysfunctions like amenorrhea and the Female Triad, which involves amenorrhea, eating disorders, and bone density loss. The module discusses Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome (RED-S) and its impacts on health, emphasizing the importance of raising energy availability to restore menstrual cycle function.

The treatment of hormonal imbalances involves increasing multiple interventions and in severe cases, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be necessary. The module outlines steps for deploying HRT, including blood work, optimizing lifestyle factors, and considering testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone replacement.

Module 3: Non-Androgenic Compounds

Module 3 focuses on non-androgenic compounds and their considerations and risks for female performance-enhancing drug (PED) users. It discusses how females are androgen-sensitive, making them more prone to adverse effects from PEDs. The module emphasizes the importance of risk mitigation, introducing the "Safer Use Model" which prioritizes compounds with human clinical data.

The module covers several non-androgenic compounds:

  • Metformin

  • Telmisartan

  • Injectable L-Carnitine

  • Growth Hormone (GH)

  • Insulin

  • Yohimbine

  • Clenbuterol

Overall, the module provides detailed insights into the use of non-androgenic compounds for female PED users, focusing on their mechanisms of action, dosing strategies, and potential risks and benefits.

Module 4: Androgenic Compounds

Module 4 focuses on androgenic compounds and provides tools for monitoring the risks associated with their use in female athletes, clients, or individuals. It emphasizes the importance of safe usage and risk mitigation strategies.

We cover:

  • Monitoring Virilisation

  • Compound Selection

  • Duration of Use:

  • Mapping out phases

Overall, the module provides comprehensive guidance on the safe and responsible use of androgenic compounds in female athletes, emphasizing the importance of monitoring, risk assessment, and informed decision-making.
